Dr. Lawrence Chatters currently serves as the Executive Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Initiatives. Dr. Chatters serves as an executive administrator advising the Director of Athletics. He provides support to the Human Resources department, directs departmental professional and leadership development, and provides oversight of the buildout, implementation, and progress of Nebraska Athletics' strategic plan. Chatters provides leadership for staff and student-athletes toward creating an inclusively excellent athletic department.  Chatters provides leadership and coordination of all primary and secondary sport administration in the athletic department. He also serves as the primary sports administrator for Men’s and Women's Gymnastics, Wrestling, and Swimming and Diving. He is the secondary administrator for Men’s and Women’s Golf. Dr. Chatters comes to athletics with a unique perspective based in his training as a psychologist and his wide experience spanning higher education, philanthropy, and business.  Prior to Nebraska, Chatters served as Vice President of Student Affairs at Midland University and as the school's Chief Diversity Officer. Chatters oversaw residential life, mental health, student health, and the academic success center on campus, and he was responsible for creating and implementing strategic initiatives to bring inclusive change on campus and in the community.  Chatters holds a Ph.D. (2018) and a Master's degree (2004) in counseling psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He has also worked as an academic advisor, course instructor, and mental health counselor with focused efforts and experience in students' mental, social, and emotional health, providing individual counseling, group counseling, inclusive outreach, and crisis management. Chatters had success as a business owner and was the executive director of a Private Foundation that raised funds to provide grants for National Children's Hospitals and other programs that focused on serving children with special medical needs. Lawrence and his wife, Katie, have two daughters, Airalon and Mikayla.
