What is Husker Dialogues?
Husker Dialogues is all about having brave conversations about diversity that promote inclusive excellence at UNL – all while introducing you to your fellow Huskers from all different backgrounds, identities and viewpoints. You'll hear from amazing and diverse student speakers before breaking out to chat in small groups with trained students, staff and faculty conversation guides about how to build an inclusive campus for everyone.
First-year students do not need to register! Attendance is expected, so grab your friends and join us to take the first steps toward a more inclusive Husker community.
NCards will be scanned to report attendance back to professors.
Why does Nebraska encourage all first-year students to attend this?
At Nebraska, we believe in the power of every person. Every person and every interaction matters. Husker Dialogues is a foundational diversity experience for first-year students. It’s an introduction to how students can start their inclusive excellence journey and build bonds across campus. All first-year students are strongly encouraged to attend.
How do I participate in Husker Dialogues?
You and 4,000 first year Huskers will travel to the Coliseum on September 6th to attend the event from 7-830PM. If you are unable to attend in-person there will be a September 13th virtual option from 7-830PM Via Zoom. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to attend virtually.
My professor says I need to attend Husker Dialogues for class. How do I let my professor know?
It is up to each instructor's discretion how they choose to grade participation in Husker Dialogues. Your instructor will need to know that you attended. Every instructor and class may handle your attendance points differently. You should review and follow their instructions for the assignment that asks you to attend Husker Dialogues for points. Some instructors may ask you to be responsible for reporting your attendance by completing a form or evaluation during the event. If you're not sure what you need to do, please contact your course instructors to ask about their expectations.
Will I attend this every year?
Husker Dialogues is an experience for first-year students. We encourage you to stay involved with diversity-related events such as becoming a volunteer for next year’s program.
